Tonk Road metro corridor to begin after launch by PM
Jaipur: After nearly a decade of delays, the state govt will begin constructing the Jaipur Metro corridor along Tonk Road, a key arterial route of the city. The construction is expected to start soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays the foundation stone for this project this Saturday. According to the blueprint, the metro line will link central commercial areas of Jaipur on Tonk Road with the airport and two important railway stations—Gandhi Nagar and Jaipur Junction.

"Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) was established on Jan 1, 2010, with the plan to operate this alignment first. Unfortunately, the Congress govt decided to construct the Mansarovar to Chandpole alignment first and then to extend that alignment till Badi Chaupar. The govt gave preference to the second alignment because it was easier to construct," a senior official said. After the stretch between Mansarovar to Chandpole was inaugurated on June 3, 2015, it was extended till Badi Chaupar on Sept 23, 2020. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Tonk Road alignmnet was revised three times. In May last year, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma approved the final DPR.
