JAIPUR: Five people died while five others suffered injuries in a
road accident on a highway in Sikar under Fathepur police station on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the mishap took place when a jeep and a van collided with each other a little ahead of Balaji temple in Sikar at 9.30 a.m. According to MS Rathore, SHO of Fathepur Kotwali police station, victims have been identified as Shashipal, Jaiprakash, Devi and Uda devi, one other woman is yet to be identified.
“The family was travelling from Salasar in the jeep. A car collided with their van near Fathepur. Many injured were rushed to Sikar for treatment but five of them succumbed to their injuries,” a police official said, adding, the injured were initially rushed to district hospital in Fathepur, however, they were later referred to Sikar for treatment.
“The intensity of the accident was very severe as both vehicles were completely smashed. We have recovered one more body which is being identified,” the police official said.
The incident took place on National Highway (NH)-65 when the van was heading towards Salasar Balaji Temple to attend to a religious gathering. All of a sudden a jeep, carrying over a dozen passengers, collided with the van. “Primary reason behind the accident seems drives lost his control over the vehicle ramming straight into the van,” said the police official.
Police said they are examining cause of the accident based on CCTV footage of the area. “Bodies of the victim were handed over to their respective families after autopsy. The injured are being taken to hospital,” a police official told TOI.
