Toddler drowns in Ujjain pond during picnic
Ujjain: A picnic turned tragic after a two and a-half-year-old girl drowned in Vishnu Sagar pond in Ujjain in Thursday.CSP Pushpa Prajapati said that body of Ravneet, daughter of Manmeet, a resident of Rajiv Ratna Colony, was recovered from the pond on Friday morning with the help of divers.Ravneet's mother Shweta had taken her to Vishnu Sagar Vatika for a picnic along with women from her neighbourhood. While the group sat together talking, the children played nearby. When Shweta looked up to check on the children, Ravneet was missing. A search was launched. Bystanders mentioned having seen the child leave with someone, raising fears of abduction alongside the possibility of drowning. Police arrived at the scene along with a sniffer dog and an SDRF team and CCTV footage of the the area was examined. The footage showed Ravneet playing with two other girls before she wandered close to the pond and fell in it. SDRF team failed to find the girl at night. In the morning, a team of 12 skilled swimmers led by Jumma alias Irfan of Helawadi was called in. The team recovered body of the girl from a deep section near bank of the pond.
