INDORE: Curfew was lifted from Mandsaur and internet services restored on Saturday as normalcy returned to the city where farmers had gone on a rampage destroying public property and pelting stones at the police.
The decision was taken after peace prevailed in Mandsaur during a 12-hour relaxation given from 8am.
“Prohibitory orders under section 144 will remain in force,” Mandsaur district collector OP Shrivastava told reporters.
However, night time curfew will remain in place at Pipliamandi, where five farmers were killed in police firing on June 6.
Shrivastava said the internet services have been restored in the town.
After violence broke out, district administration had cut off internet services in the district to prevent spread of rumours through mobile messaging applications.
On Saturday, as the situation eased, markets bustled with activity as people stepped out to stock essentials such as vegetables and milk.
Farmers had been protesting over low prices for their crops since June 1. The Mandsaur-Neemuch region became the nerve centre of the gathering storm of farmer distress.
