Telangana: Nalgonda boy bags 7th rank in UPSC exam, 3 Telugus in top 50

HYDERABAD: Nalgonda boy Karnati Varun Reddy has secured seventh rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, 2018, the results of which were declared on Friday. According to his social media page, Varunreddy is currently an assistant commissioner in the Income Tax department.Earlier, he worked as a programmer at Way2wealth Brokers Pvt Ltd after acquiring a B Tech degree in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Bombay) in 2013. Varunreddy did his schooling at Dr KKR’s Gowtham Concept School in Telangana.The results declared on Friday are based on a written test conducted by the UPSC in September-October 2018 and interviews for Personality Test held in February-March 2019.A total of 759 candidates made it to the merit list of whom 577 are men and 182 are women.Kanishak Kataria, also a student of IIT Bombay, was declared the national topper and Srushti Jayant Deshmukh, who secured all-India fifth rank, was the topper among women.As it appears, there are at least three more candidates from the Telugu states -- Sreelakshmi R, Lakshmi N, and Rangashree T K — who secured a place among the top 50 candidates.
