Raichur: In a move aimed at promoting public healthcare, zilla panchayat CEO Ishwar Kumar Kandoo chose a govt hospital for his wife's delivery in the district.
The delivery was conducted at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Thursday, after which the mother and newborn were shifted to the Mother and Child Hospital for postnatal care. The couple has been blessed with a baby boy, and both are in good health.
Kandoo said the decision was taken to encourage people to utilise facilities available in govt hospitals. He noted that well-equipped labour rooms, dedicated wards and the presence of skilled doctors and attentive staff make public institutions a reliable choice for maternal care.
"The govt has ensured comprehensive facilities for maternal and child care across hospitals, including in rural areas. Opting for RIMS for the delivery was a matter of personal pride," he said.
The decision assumes significance as govt hospitals, particularly RIMS, have been strengthened with modern infrastructure and specialised maternal care services. Facilities such as continuous monitoring, trained personnel and improved clinical support have enabled effective handling of even complicated deliveries.
By choosing a public hospital despite holding a senior administrative position, the CEO sought to set an example and encourage greater public trust in govt healthcare institutions, especially in rural and semi-urban regions.
