DIMAPUR: The NSCN (Khaplang), with regard to its ceasefire agreement with the Myanmarese government, issued a statement saying that it would set up a sub-office in Khamti and Lahe districts while a joint check post would be set up at Thamati in Makury area for easy communication between the two sides.
The outfit said that the NSCN(K) under the leadership of S S Khaplang is observing a consensus on undeclared ceasefire, which was arrived at with the-then military junta government of Myanmar in 1992.
It also said that former NSCN(K) kilo kilonser, Tongmeth Wangnao, who later defected to NSCN(IM), represented the NSCN(K) on behalf of Khaplang at a meeting in this context with the Myanmarese military junta government in Jakwang village of Pangmi area in 1992.
The statement also said that the peace zone declaration made by the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) and the NSCN(K)'s movement for sovereignty should not be mixed up as they are separate issues. A statement issued by the MIP of NSCN(K) stated that the NSCN is for sovereignty of the Nagas while the ENPO's movement is a people's movement for development of backward areas. "Therefore, nobody should try to misguide the ENPO," the statement said.
The outfit said that it understands the efforts of ENPO towards preserving peace and tranquility within its jurisdiction through its declaration of December 18, 2007 and that it upholds the same in their pursuit for peace and reconciliation in eastern parts of Naga-inhabited areas.
