MCG commissioner cracks down on garbage, orders immediate clean-up during surprise inspection

Gurgaon: Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on Thursday carried out surprise inspections across key parts of the city, directing officials to ensure the immediate removal of waste piled up along roadsides, green belts and public spaces.

Beginning his drive around 9.30am from Rajiv Chowk, Dahiya ordered the clearance of soil and debris lying along the roadside. He also reviewed sanitation work on the Delhi-Gurgaon highway being handled by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), instructing officials to improve the efficiency of mechanised cleaning operations.

At Jharsa Chowk, the commissioner pulled up teams over garbage accumulation on the service road and ordered swift action. The inspection covered major junctions, including Signature Tower Chowk, MDI Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, CRPF Chowk and areas around Sheetla Mata Mandir.

Dahiya warned that negligence in sanitation work would not be tolerated and emphasised stronger coordination between departments handling garbage collection, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, road cleaning and maintenance of green areas. Officials said he specifically directed teams to prioritise the removal of plastic waste, horticultural waste and C&D debris from public places.

“Improving sanitation in Gurgaon remains a priority for both the Haryana govt and the civic body. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini is also regularly reviewing the city’s sanitation system,” Dahiya said.

From May 1, the state’s urban local bodies department will launch a two-week cleanliness and waste-management campaign, “Nayi Soch, Naya Shehar – Swachh Haryana”. The first phase, till May 9, will focus on awareness and door-to-door outreach to enforce segregation of wet, dry, sanitary and e-waste, alongside intensive clean-up drives and identification of garbage black spots.
