Gurgaon: A robbery attempt at a jewellery shop in Punhana (Nuh), was foiled Friday morning when the shopkeeper resisted two armed assailants.
Police said jeweller Naveen Soni opened his shop in Punjabi Colony around 8:30am. Shortly after, two men entered his shop, with helmets on. They tried to threaten him with a country-made pistol (katta) and attempted to take all cash and jewellery.
The shopkeeper fought back. During the scuffle, one of the accused hit Naveen on the head using the butt of the pistol. The jeweller still managed to catch hold of one assailant while the other fled. Police identified the accused as Ahmed (21), a resident of Bulandshahr, UP. Locals gathered at the store after hearing commotion and thrashed the accused before handing him over to police. "The accused was admitted to a hospital. The jeweller, who sustained head injuries, is under medical care," an officer said.
The incident, captured on CCTV cameras, went viral on social media.
A case was registered at Punhana police station. Police are on a lookout for the other accused. Another officer said he reportedly met his associate eight months ago in jail and has been involved in crimes across Faridabad, Palwal, and Hathin.
