GURGAON: As many as 40 students and teachers from the colleges in Haryana will be sent for training at a UK institute to hone their skills. The decision has been taken following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the state’s higher education department and the UK’s Cambridge Regional College that was signed last month.
Teachers and students from government colleges in the state wrote an essay as a qualification test for the programme and submitted them online to the department.
20 teachers and 20 students will be selected based on the essay. The selection process is under way.
The selected candidates will be given a sabbatical for two weeks from their respective institutions. It will be an all-expense paid trip to the Cambridge Regional College affiliated with Cambridge University.
“The exchange programme is devised in such a way whereby the faculty and students are expected to spend two weeks in the host institution, sharing, learning, and delivering the best practices on curriculum development, innovation and technology, quality assurance process, and engagement with industry and employer. The programme will be implemented by Global Training Education Programme in partnership with Kingsmead,” said Anand Mohan Sharan, the additional chief secretary of higher education.
Out of the 40 candidates to be sent to UK, 26 will be selected from the government colleges, 8 from the government polytechnic institutions, and 6 from Shri Vishwakarma Skill University in Gurgaon.
Students enrolled in second and third years of undergraduate courses were eligible to apply for the training programme, said an official from the department. For students, the online essay will account for 40 percent of the total 100 marks. The rest 60 percent will be awarded based on the candidate’s academic performance in classes 10 and 12, along with the first- and second-year marks of undergraduate.
“The timeline for the sabbatical and the visit is yet to be decided. The selection process is underway. We have received several applications in the form of essays. The department is currently reviewing them all,” said one of the district programme managers, who added that under the collaboration, not just Haryana students and teachers will get trained at one of the top 10 colleges in England, but also students from the UK will get an opportunity to come and study at Haryana institutions.
