‘Don’t charge workers to use jetty toilets’
Margao: Chief minister Pramod Sawant, during an inspection of Cutbona jetty on Wednesday, directed the collector to immediately install more toilets at the jetty under disaster management measures. He also directed govt to hire a contractor to get rid of the scrap boats at the jetty and remove all encroachments within eight days. The CM was told that while the boats are at the jetty for unloading of fish, a few labourers use their own money to use the paid toilets, while others defecate in the open. Sawant directed the fisheries department to ensure that labourers do not have to pay to use toilets.“Why should labourers pay to use the toilet? The boat owners should pay and ensure that all their labourers use the toilets,” he said.He asked the fisheries department how Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) could build sensor toilets at the jetty and told the fisheries department to convert them into regular toilets for the workers. The CM was told that the cholera cases began on the Mobor side and the jetty there was given to a private player with no official notification.
