DEHRADUN: Dressed in a red gown and angel wings, members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) , organization committed towards animals, appealed to youngsters who were celebrating Valentine’s Day at city mall to love animals and turn vegans to show compassion toward them.
The members also offered red roses to the youngsters as token of love for animals while holding a sign that read,"Have a Heart: Try Vegan.
Shambhavi Tiwari, PETA member told TOI, "We are encouraging youngsters to become vegan. This will save lives of so many animals who are butchered every year to be served on the food platter. We got very positive response from the youngsters who assured to take pledge in this regard."
Surbhi Bhatt, college student said that she was toying with the idea of turning vegan and now after meeting with PETA members, she has resolved to do so immediately. Raghav Gupta, executive in private company said that he would also join an animal welfare organization like PETA in near future and would like to promote vegan diet.
Neerja Khede, PETA's campaign coordinator said, "Eating meat contributes to increased rates of heart disease, strokes, cancer, and diabetes. Animals raised for meat are killed terribly . They are crammed into vehicles in such large numbers that many are severely injured or even die en route to the slaughterhouses. This is quite cruel . How can we be happy by eating them. So people must turn vegan for these animals as well as to opt for healthy lifestyle for themselves."
