CHENNAI: Forest minister M Mathiventhan has urged the Union government to expedite the release of pending financial assistance of 33 crore for the ‘Accessible India Campaign’.
He made the demand at the sixth meeting of the central advisory board constituted under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
The minister urged the government to extend benefits under the Indira Gandhi Disabled Pension Scheme (IGDPS) to all the 5.17 lakh beneficiaries, apart from extending the entire financial assistant of 1,500 a month to 5.8 lakh beneficiaries enrolled in Tamil Nadu.

The co-branding process has been completed, but funds are being withheld. Emergency services and salaries for residents were provided using state funds. The Centre has approved cash grants but only the first instalment has been provided. The states share has been made available without interruption. Projects are moving forward using the states allocation. The minister also requested funds for various categories.
