Chennai: Chief minister
M K Stalin on Wednesday urged
DMK district secretaries to form booth-level committees (BLCs) to ensure that there are no largescale deletions of voters similar to
Bihar.
"We have seen the atrocities that unfolded in the guise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters list in Bihar. Our booth level committees should be strengthened. So expedite the constitution of BLCs," Stalin said at a district secretaries meeting. He said he would personally monitor the process of setting up of BLCs and appointment of booth committee members. He said for every 100 voters, one BLC member should be appointed.
A resolution condemning the SIR exercise of the Election Commission in Bihar was also passed at the meeting. The resolution demanded free and fair elections.
Stalin said the party had divided the state into eight zones to carry out election work. The zonal in-charges would resolve constituency-level issues and address public grievances, he said. He asked party functionaries to meet people on a daily basis.
In the meeting, DMK Rajya Sabha MP N R Elango explained to the district secretaries about SIR and its consequences. He urged them to closely monitor the revision of the voters list.
"Since, SIR would be conducted in TN too, we have insisted on the ECI to carry out SIR at least two months before the 2026 elections so that the people will have sufficient time to provide required documents," Elango told reporters after the meeting.
