CHENNAI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will use indigenously made aerobridges at the new integrated terminal at Chennai airport. The new terminal will be opened in December.
Two of the bridges, which are the longest (47m), are being installed at the terminal building that is getting ready for commissioning.
This will be the first time aerobridges will carry the Make in India tag and are not entirely imported.
The new terminal will get 15 such aerobridges of three different configurations -- seven aerobridges of 47m length, seven aerobridges of 32-40m, and one aerobridge of 32m.
The aerobridges come with advanced visual docking guidance systems (A-VDGS) which guide pilots to dock the plane exactly in front of the gate.
More than 50% of the components of the aerobridges are made in India including the fixed link tunnel, tunnels, cabins, UPS, ACs, cables and others.
