A flood alert has been issued to residents living along the banks of the Kosasthalaiyar river in Tiruvallur district owing to heavy rainfall in Andhra Pradesh over the past two days.
Tiruvallur collector E Sundaravalli said revenue and PWD officials, firefighters and police are making arrangement to prevent damage during the flood.
Following excess rainfall in Andhra Pradesh, surplus water was released from the Ammapalli (Chittoor district) at 1,300 cusecs (37,000 litres per second).
The collector has asked residents not to use the causeways at Nediyam, Veliyagaram and Samanthavaada during the floods.
