CHENNAI: Women who are role models for the younger generation should strive to consciously inspire them through their actions, than just being mere examples, said governor R N Ravi while interacting with a gathering of eminent women at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.
'Think to Dare,' the gathering, was organised by Women's League Foundation. Those who got felicitated include gynaecologist Dr Kamala Selvaraj, culinary expert Mallika Badrinath, infertility specialist Dr Nandita Thakkar, youtuber Meenatchi Srinivasan of Amma Samayal and education psychologist Dr Saranya Jaikumar.
He said that no country or society would grow if women were left behind.
Till 2010, the participation of women in elections was very low, but now they have become important. Most of the time they do not go by the decisions of their husbands on whom to vote, he said.
Sample surveys conducted for the recent census showed that gender equality had been attained, which was a very positive sign, he said.
Ravi said the youth should be made to believe in their own potential to excel.
