Chandigarh: The meat market area of Sector 21 and a few more markets in the city will have new sewage lines and connections. On physical inspection of the area, the existing line was found to be quite old, which is why the plan was made. Agenda items in this regard will come up in the MC Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting scheduled on Friday.
“There is continuous overflow of sewerage near the meat market to Baba Dairy, Sector 21, Chandigarh, which results in unhygienic conditions surrounding the area.
The overflow of sewerage occurs as the existing old sewer line remains blocked due to malba and silt accusmulation. During site inspection, it has been found that the existing size of the pipeline is small and is not capable of carrying out the whole sewer discharge of the linked area. Hence, new pipeline of bigger diameter is required for smooth flow of sewerage system in the affected area,” the agenda says. Sources said that the sub-divisional engineer concerned submitted the necessary data to lay the new sewer line along with construction of machine hole chambers. “It is proposed to lay down new pipeline and construct machine hole chambers. Other required things like disposal of surplus soil, sand filing and making connection etc will be done as per site requirements. The estimate of Rs 21.57 lakh has been allowed by the competent authority in this regard,” sources said. tnn
