Amritsar: BJP workers in Amritsar celebrated the announcement of the party's national general secretary, Tarun Chugh, as the BJP's Rajya Sabha candidate by distributing sweets and bursting firecrackers at Lahori Gate on Thursday.A native of Amritsar's Namak Mandi area, Chugh began his political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and rose through the ranks of the BJP, starting as a booth-level worker before taking on responsibilities at the district, state and national levels.Currently BJP national general secretary, Chugh has played a key organisational role in states and UTs.BJP Punjab media panellist Hemant Mehra said Chugh's entry into the Rajya Sabha would help raise Punjab's concerns more effectively at the national level. District vice-president Sarabjit Singh Shanty described his elevation as an inspiration for party workers and expressed confidence that he would strongly raise issues related to Punjab, border areas, youth, industry and trade in Parliament.Party workers said Chugh's nomination reflected the BJP's worker-centric culture, where dedication and organisational work are rewarded.
