3 Punjab tourists talking selfies near river washed away, rescued by locals
Kullu: Three tourists from Punjab had a narrow escape on Tuesday after they were rescued from drowning in the Parvati river near Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district. The tourists, who were part of a family visiting the popular pilgrimage destination, went into the river while taking selfies along the riverbank after paying obeisance at the gurdwara in Manikaran. The strong currents of the river swept all three of them away as eyewitnesses immediately raised an alarm, triggering a rescue operation by locals. After being carried downstream by around 50 metres by the swift current, the tourists were pulled to safety by local residents. An official said that all three tourists were safe and did not suffer any injuries. The local police have not disclosed the identities of the tourists. The incident has once again raised concerns over selfie-taking at riverbanks during the peak tourist season in Himachal Pradesh.Meanwhile, a tourist was saved from drowning in the Chandra river in Sissu in Lahaul and Spiti district on Monday. The tourist entered the water and was swept away by the strong current. Fortunately, a few locals, who witnessed the incident, pulled the tourist out. MSID: 131635180 413 |
