13 Eklavya schools in Odisha get advanced space labs
President Droupadi Murmu virtually inaugurates the space labs
Bhubaneswar: Aiming to strengthen science education among tribal students and foster innovation, critical thinking and a scientific temper, space labs were virtually inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu at 75 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across the country, including 13 in Odisha, on Wednesday.In Odisha, the labs have been established at EMRS Kotpad and Kundra in Koraput district, Mathili in Malkangiri, Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi, Patana in Keonjhar, and eight EMRSs in Mayurbhanj district — Rairangpur, Thakurmunda, Baripada, Badasahi, Kaptipada, Koliana, Rasgovindpur and Udala.Set up by the ministry of tribal affairs, the labs are designed to provide tribal students with hands-on training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Each facility is equipped with advanced learning tools and scientific models, including thLVM3 launch vehicle and Earth Observation satellite demonstration model, static models of PSLV, HRLV, IRNSS and GSAT launch vehicles, table-top models explaining the solar system, lunar eclipses, phases of the moon, day and night cycles, seasons, and global time zones.The labs also feature a star-tracker telescope (150/750 mm), a CanSat working model, space science and mathematics teaching-learning materials, ISRO space books and timeline exhibits.
Officials said the initiative will provide students with practical exposure to emerging fields such as space science, astronomy, robotics and satellite technology. By enabling first-hand interaction with advanced technologies, the programme seeks to inspire tribal youth to pursue careers in science, engineering and research.
