Bhopal: The death toll in Thursday evening's
road accident on the Sidhi-Singrauli National Highway rose to four on Friday after one of the injured succumbed during treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Rewa.
The accident occurred around 7.30 pm near Bahri in Sidhi district when a speeding SUV rammed into a stationary truck loaded with tents and material for chief minister Mohan Yadav's programme scheduled in Bahri on Friday. Three people were killed on the spot, and three others sustained serious injuries.
On Friday morning, police confirmed that one of the injured, Prince, 28, who was referred to Rewa, died during treatment. "One of the injured, Prince, 28, who was referred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa, also died during treatment. The treatment of two other injured is ongoing," Bahri police station incharge Rajesh Pandey told TOI.
The other deceased have been identified as Dharmendra Jaiswal, 24, and Geeta, 55, both from Jethu village, and Sohaib, 35, a resident of Rahatgarh who accompanied the tent crew for the CM's programme.
Meanwhile, the CM's scheduled visit to Bahri in Sidhi stands cancelled in the aftermath of the tragedy.
According to the official itinerary, on Friday Mohan Yadav will now visit Teonthar in Rewa before returning to Bhopal.
Late on Thursday night, the chief minister expressed grief over the accident. In a statement, he described it as a tragic incident and instructed Sidhi district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. He also offered prayers to Baba Mahakal for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families.
