Pet dog beaten inside Shahjahanpur graveyard; probe on

Bareilly: A pet dog was allegedly beaten by five men inside a graveyard in the Jalalnagar locality of the Sadar area in Shahjahanpur after it strayed into the premises, police said.As per the dog's 12-year-old owner, he had taken the pet outside when it slipped from his control and ran into the graveyard. The people present there allegedly locked the gate and began beating the animal with sticks.The boy alleged that when the dog tried to hide under a cot to escape the assault, the men dragged it out and continued thrashing it. He recorded the incident from a nearby rooftop and later shared the video on social media.He said he repeatedly requested the men to let the dog out onto the street, but they allegedly ignored his pleas and continued the assault.The dog's owner later submitted a complaint at the Sadar police station seeking action against the accused.SSP Rajesh Dwivedi said police had taken note of the video. "The video came to our cognisance and appropriate action will be taken accordingly," he told TOI.
