Pilibhit: A 60-year-old man has been booked for allegedly attempting to rape his daughter-in-law, while a case was registered against his son for allegedly assaulting her after learning about the incident in Pilibhit's Bisalpur town. The FIRs were lodged on Sunday evening based on a written complaint by the 25-year-old woman, detailing an incident that allegedly took place in Dec last year.
The complainant, who lives with her two young children while her husband works in Bareilly, alleged that her father-in-law broke into her home at 1 am on Dec 17 last year. After tearing a window curtain and tricking her into opening the door under the pretext of an "important discussion", the accused held a knife to her throat and tried to rape her.
When the woman's screams woke her children, the accused fled after threatening her with dire consequences if the matter was reported to the police.
The woman further alleged that her husband, upon learning of the incident, refused to believe her and instead physically assaulted her. While she initially approached the police shortly after the attack, she claimed her request for an FIR was denied, leading to a period of severe illness brought on by mental shock and acute stress.
It was only after a freshly written complaint was submitted on Sunday that official action was taken.
SHO Sanjiv Kumar Shukla said, "Both the accused have been charged under BNS section 74 for using criminal force with intent to outrage modesty, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 351(3) for criminal intimidation, and 352 for intentional insult."
