Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Tamalwadi police in Dharashiv district solved the murder of a 13-year-old boy within 24 hours and arrested his uncle, who allegedly killed the child after viewing him as a hurdle in his illicit relationship with the victim's mother.
The boy's body was found concealed under grass near the Tamalwadi storage reservoir in Tuljapur taluka on Jan 5. Following the recovery of the body, the Tamalwadi police registered a murder case under BNS section 103(1) on Jan 6 and arrested his 35-year-old uncle.
Police said the accused worked as a farm worker on agricultural land located along the Solapur-Dhule national highway in Tamalwadi Shivar. He was employed there along with his sister-in-law, who is the 13-year-old's mother.
Investigators revealed that the boy became aware of the illicit relationship between his mother and uncle, and informed his father about it. "The child started repeatedly sharing information about the relationship with his father. This angered the accused, who began seeing the boy as a major obstacle," Dharashiv superintendent of police Ritu Khokher-Kalyan said.
According to the police, on Jan 1, around noon, the accused took the boy to the Tamalwadi storage reservoir under the pretext of installing a pipeline for an electric water pump.
"At the reservoir, the accused attacked the boy with an axe, killing him on the spot. He then dumped the body under the grass near the reservoir and fled," the SP said.
Initially, police registered an accidental death report under section 194 of the BNSS. However, after the victim was identified and the circumstances were analysed, suspicion arose, leading the police to convert the case into a murder. Assistant inspector Gokul Thakur, the area police station in-charge, said the case was solved swiftly using technical inputs and information from confidential sources.
