Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 35-year-old police constable attached to the Majalgaon city police station in Beed district was found dead after allegedly hanging himself at his residence in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Balkrishna Jaybhaye. The police said his body was discovered around 2am at his home in the Lokashanagar area, on Nagar Road in Beed, following which local police teams visited the spot and carried out a panchnama.
Officials said Jaybhaye returned home late the previous night after completing an official assignment in Pune. He reportedly travelled to Pune two days ago as part of a team searching for a missing girl from Majalgaon. After returning from duty, he is suspected to have taken the extreme step, though the exact sequence of events remains unclear.
The body was later shifted to the district civil hospital, where an autopsy was performed. No note was recovered, and the reason behind the incident is yet to be established.
Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat said, "An accidental death case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the situation that forced him to take the extreme step. The investigation, so far, has not revealed any professional reason for the extreme step. We are probing it from all angles."
Colleagues described Jaybhaye as a sincere and soft-spoken constable who maintained good relations within the department and among locals. He earlier served with the Beed Local Crime Branch and Gevrai police station
