AGRA: A nine-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead at a naming ceremony in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district by a 45-year-old man after the child refused to bring water for the consumption of alcohol by the accused.According to the police, the incident happened at around 11 pm on May 1 in the Yakutganj village under Sahawar police station limits, where the accused, identified as Dhanesh Yadav (45), a resident of Kasganj's Soro, came to attend the 'namkaran ceremony' of the son of Jasveer Gola."The deceased Yash Singh asked the child to bring water for consuming alcohol. When the boy refused, the accused allegedly lost his temper and shot him in the abdomen at close range before fleeing the spot," said Govind Vallabh Sarma, SHO Sahawar PS, while speaking to TOI on Sunday.After the incident, Yash collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood and was rushed to the District Hospital, from where doctors referred him to Aligarh, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon. The body was brought back to the village, and the police were informed. A team from the Sahawar police station reached the spot and initiated an investigation. On the complaint of the child's father, Sukhveer Singh, an FIR was filed initially under section 109 (1) (Attempt to Murder), which was later turned into 103 (1) (Murder) of the BNS after the child died during treatment at a hospital in Aligarh.Sharma further said statements of family members and villagers have been recorded. The accused was then arrested on the evening of April 2 at around 5.30 pm.Speaking to TOI, DSP Kasganj Shahida Nasreen said, "An illegal country-made pistol, one live cartridge, and one empty cartridge of .315 bore used in the crime were recovered from his possession. The accused has been sent to judicial custody after completing legal formalities."The accused used to work as a famer in the city, while the child was a Class 4 student, said the police.
