Traffic police have been penalizing motorists after making the wearing of helmets compulsory for riders and pillion across Indian cities.
So much so that, in many cities, riding without helmets will now attract suspension of driving license for three months, besides the usual e-challan.
Senior neurosurgeons often say that helmets insulate one from serious head injury, the most common cause of death and co-morbidities in road accidents.
Despite all this, there are some reckless riders, who defy this rule for a number of reasons. From ‘not looking good’ to ‘not feeling comfortable’ to ‘my hair needs air’, bikers give plenty of excuses for not wearing a helmet.
Recently,
Twitter user Melvin Cherian posted a photo of himself halting at a traffic signal, captured by CCTV cameras put across Pune. The picture showed him riding a bike without a helmet. Tagging the official handle of Pune Police and thanking them for the capture, he said that he would pay challan for riding without a helmet but he looked good.
Pune Police gave a hilarious reply to the tweet and wrote, “A black helmet will go very well with that nice black jacket though.” Emphasizing further on wearing helmet, they used hashtag #WearAHelment.
Cherian responded by saying that he had paid the fine and promised to buy a black helmet as suggested by Pune Police.
The hilarious exchange between the two went viral and elicited many responses. Many hailed the team handling Pune Police’s social media accounts for coming up with witty tweets and replies.
Others liked how gentle and polite the entire conversation was.
