NEW DELHI: Delhiites have been witnessing a thick envelope of smog as air quality in the national capital and in adjoining regions is dipping into severe category.
The Delhi-NCR residents are literally gasping for breath with the AQI plunging to the toxic range. Recently, the air quality in the national capital jumped to 472. In Noida and
Gurugram, it stood at 562 and 593 respectively — an abnormally high level.
It meant that the people were effectively breathing smoke.
In some pockets of the city, the index exceeded 800, according to Delhi Pollution Control Committee findings. Air quality in parts of Delhi is now consistently over 500, which is the maximum limit defined by the Centre. Beyond this, the air turns severely toxic.
As a result of the thick smog, locals are unable to spot and properly identify even nearby structures and things.
One such incident was brought to light via a tweet that has now gone viral, where a user posted a screengrab of the whatsapp conversation he had with his Delhi-based friend.
The screengrab posted by Twitter user @NeecheSeTopper had a photo sent by his friend. He thought he had spotted a UFO in the city, which was only a water tower in the distance, enveloped by a thick layer of smog that hampered visibility.
However, a cursory glance at the photo confused many netizens, who for a moment thought that it was a UFO, only to later realize, it is not. Scary, right?
Many saw the funny side of it and reacted with laugh emojis after having a sigh of relief on finding out that it was just a water tank.
The tweet received over 40 thousand likes.
