A fresh LPG cylinder price hike has ignited a heated political debate across the country, with opposition leaders accusing the Centre of adding to inflationary pressure on households. The government increased the price of domestic LPG cylinders by Rs 60 and commercial cylinders by Rs 115, drawing sharp reactions from the Congress and other opposition parties. Congress described the move as another blow to common families and labelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “Inflation Man.” Senior leader Pawan Khera also questioned Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri’s assurance that fuel supplies remain affordable despite tensions in West Asia. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee joined the criticism, warning that rising LPG costs will hurt ordinary families. Meanwhile, government sources say India has adequate fuel stocks and diversified supply routes, with strategic reserves capable of handling short-term disruptions despite geopolitical tensions linked to the US-Iran conflict.
