Uma Shankar Das, a Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, reported on September 13 that a cyclonic circulation had formed over the northwest region adjacent to the West-Central Bay of Bengal. He also cautioned about the potential for isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Odisha.Das explained that this cyclonic circulation was expected to evolve into a low-pressure system over the same area, leading to isolated extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm. Additionally, several areas might experience rainfall ranging from 7 to 20 cm. Specifically, six districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, and Kandhamal, were placed under a red alert.Due to the anticipated intense rainfall, the region faced potential risks such as landslides in hilly areas and flash floods due to the substantial rainfall intensity.
