Popular daily soap Prema starring Nirupam Paritala and Prema is all set to go off-air from today (February 29) making way for the new daily soap Trinayani.
The unexpected closure has left fans disappointed. However, Nirupam, who is also the producer of the show, assures to return with yet another promising show soon. In an exclusive chat with TimesofIndia.com, Nirupam spoke at length about the show and its unexpected ending.

We were informed by the channel three weeks ago that they are launching a new show and we got to wrap Prema soon. It came across as a surprise because the show is one of the channel’s best shows till date. But above all, it is the channel’s decision and we have to respect it with all humility.

The channel had some issues with the previous production house and I was offered the production of Prema midway. So, Prema made me a producer, too (laughs). My first TV production gave me more satisfaction as a producer than an actor.

When we took over the show, it wasn’t performing well in terms of TRPs. The show used to revolve around a property conflict but we steered it onto the relationship between the main leads. The male lead suffering memory loss due to an accident, his wife coping up with the crisis and the consequences have worked in our favour big time.

The show indeed started performing better after the entry of Marina Abraham. Our on-screen chemistry was lauded all over. All those fan pages and fan edits of our scenes from the show on social media feel special.

In spite of being a writer myself, my involvement in the writing of this show is very minimal. I do share my inputs when needed but in TV, a writer has many factors to satisfy. So, I don’t want to bother them who are already good at what they are doing (laughs).

A happy ending is what a majority of our Indian audience would love. Even our show will have one. Sorry, can’t reveal more now.

I was asked to start a new project and since I couldn’t balance both Prema and the new show, I obliged to their request to end the show. I’m currently working on the new show which will hit the floors very soon.
