Upper Mustang

Upper Mustang is a remote region which falls between China and Nepal. Located towards the north of Annapurna, at a height of 4000m, Mustang is geologically and culturally a part of the Tibetan plateau. Mustang is a remote semi-independent Tibetan Kingdom, and its capital is called Lo Manthang. Historically, Upper Mustang was a part of Tibet which was used by the salt traders crossing the Himalayas to enter Nepal. The area still preserves its old cultural heritage with a majority of population speaking traditional Tibetan languages. The valley is full of dry colourful rock formations and cave dwellings high up in the cliffs. Upper Mustang is one of the few locations in Nepal which is good for trekking even during monsoons. It is a privilege to trek towards this part where one can experience the true life of mountain people, which is mostly secluded from the rest of Nepal and even had an official king in the recent time.
