Thamel is the heart of Nepal tourism which attracts thousands of tourists every year. The shopping Mecca of Kathmandu largely remained undamaged by the massive earthquake which jolted Nepal last year. It is considered to be a paradise both for backpackers and tourists offering almost everything for everyone. Consider shopping from the local stuff including crafts, jewellery and clothes. Backpackers and budget travellers especially can find some of the best options to stay here at minimal rates. It also serves as a pre-base camp for mountaineers offering wide range of mountaineering gears needed during the trek. Thamel is also known for nightlife, there are some good restaurants and bars that serve a range of good dishes and liquor. The popular tourist attractions Ason Bazaar, Durbar Square, Samakushi and Swayambhunath are merely 10 to 30 minutes away from Thamel.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
