The Edmonton Oilers kept their
NHL playoff series alive with a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 5 on Thursday.
Connor McDavid had two assists and helped the team avoid elimination and continue the series. The result keeps their hopes alive heading into a critical Game 6 match.
But the victory didn't silence all the worries in the Oilers' camp. Connor McDavid weighed in on the issues with the execution and special teams, saying that if Edmonton is going to extend its playoff run in this closely fought series, changes have to be made.

Connor McDavid evaluates Edmonton Oilers NHL Game 5 performance
Edmonton Oilers captain
Connor McDavid said his team wasn’t at its best despite winning Game 5. The Oilers captain said the result was good, but the overall game was still inconsistent. “They’ve been playing really well, and I don’t think we’ve been at our best,” he said. His comments suggest a focus on long-term improvement rather than short-term wins.
Still a huge concern on special teams. "Special teams have been a bit of an Achilles heel this series," Connor McDavid said. The team was more effective on the power play and limiting damage while shorthanded in Game 5. But inconsistency in those situations has already cost them in earlier games.
The Oilers were more organized across the board.
Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard were big contributors, and goalie Connor Ingram made some big saves to prevent the Ducks from gaining momentum. The team also did a better job controlling the neutral zone, limiting high-danger chances.
Connor McDavid also addressed his availability after some pre-game worries, saying that he was always going to play. But he was important not just for his production, but for his leadership in a must-win situation.
The Oilers, meanwhile, have a tough job ahead of them in Game 6 on the road. Connor McDavid said the team needs to improve in areas like special teams and execution, but take it one game at a time.
With the NHL game today upon us, the Oilers are aware that staying consistent is staying alive. The Game 5 win proved they can hang with them, but whether they can sustain that level will determine if they can make a series comeback in these playoffs.
