... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...
Tail-end power and the road ahead - Jammu and Kashmir are far from finished, with significant batting depth still in the shed. Both Auqib and Yudhvir are known to be no mugs with the bat and possess the ability to wield the willow effectively to add quick runs towards the end of the innings. As the players head in for Tea, Karnataka will be searching for a way to wrap up the tail quickly, while J&K will aim to bat the hosts out of the game. We will be back for the final session at 3 pm IST (9.30 am GMT).
Spinners strike on a wearing deck - Karnataka’s breakthroughs in the session came through their spin department, providing a glimpse of the challenges to come. Shetty accounted for Kanhaiya Wadhawan, while Gopal claimed the crucial scalp of the opposition skipper. While these wickets offered a brief respite, they also served as a warning that the deck is visibly starting to wear and tear. The puff of dust rising from the surface suggests increasing misery for the Karnataka batters, who will have to contend with these deteriorating conditions when their turn comes to bat.
Paras and Sahil sthine - Paras was the protagonist of the afternoon, displaying immense grit before perishing after a well-made 70. Paras found an able ally in Sahil Lotra after Kanhaiya Wadhawan. Sahil has looked exceptionally comfortable since the moment he stepped out to the middle. Sahil’s fluid stroke-play and ease against both pace and spin have taken him to 31 not out at the break. He is currently joined by Abid Mushtaq, who remains unbeaten on 3, looking to stretch the first innings total further in the final session.
Jammu and Kashmir solidify control - The post-Lunch session has firmly belonged to Jammu and Kashmir, as they successfully navigated the period to achieve their objective of building a substantial total as they head into the break at 478 for 6. Despite the loss of two wickets, the visitors maintained a scoring rate that has kept the Karnataka bowlers under pressure. The resilience shown by the middle order has ensured that J&K head into the final interval of the day with a clear sense of authority in this Ranji Trophy final.
