While Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam set an aggressive tone with the new ball, it was Rana’s relentless spell that truly dictated the terms. Utilizing a barrage of sharp, uncomfortable short balls, Rana dismantled the New Zealand batting order to claim a decisive five-wicket haul. Although Hossain and Mehidy provided vital support to keep the pressure on, Rana’s five-fer acted as the wrecking ball that broke the backbone of the Kiwi lineup and shifted the momentum firmly in Bangladesh's favor. Now, Bangladesh are clear favourites. Far from enough by the Kiwis - New Zealand managed to scrape their way toward a 200-run total, though it was far from a vintage performance. At the halfway point, they sat at a sluggish 97/3, struggling to find any real momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. While Kelly anchored the innings with a gritty maiden fifty and attempted to shift gears late in his knock, he found the acceleration difficult to sustain. His departure for a well-made 83 exposed a middle order that failed to capitalize on their starts, remarkably, no other batter managed to cross the 20-run threshold. With Abbas’s 19 ranking as the second-highest score of the innings, the scorecard told a clear story of a side heavily reliant on a single individual to carry them to a competitive mark.
