Diphu election results 2026: BJP's Niso Terangpi wins against Independent candidate J.I. Kathar

NEW DELHI: Niso Terangpi of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Diphu (ST) constituency with 90,866 votes, defeating Independent candidate J.I. Kathar by a margin of 49,740 votes. Kathar secured 41,126 votes. Independent candidate Rajen Timung (son of Lt. Kangbura Timung) finished third with 4,072 votes, followed by AAP's Biresh Difoesa with 3,187 votes.

The Diphu Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly and is designated as constituency number 110. Reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates, it falls under the Diphu Lok Sabha constituency.

There were a total of 1,82,139 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Diphu Assembly constituency, of whom 89,691 were male, 92,439 female and 9 belonged to the third gender.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, Bidya Sing Engleng of the BJP won the seat, defeating Sum Ronghang of Congress by a margin of 40,528 votes. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso secured the Diphu Lok Sabha seat, defeating Independent candidate J.I. Kathar with a margin of 1,47,603 votes.

According to the Election Commission, the Diphu constituency had 1,52,462 registered voters in 2021, comprising 75,415 males and 75,553 females. There were no voters registered under the third gender.
