Coronavirus live updates: India reports over 3k Covid deaths for 4th day

India on Friday posted a record daily rise of over 3.86 lakh new Covid-19 cases and continued to post over 3,000 deaths for the third consecutive day, as per Union health ministry data updated at 8 am. With 386,452 new cases recorded on Friday, India's tally of total Covid-19 cases now stands at 1,87,62,976, the highest since the pandemic started in 2019. The death jumped by 3,498 over the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 2,08,330, according to the health ministry data. Stay with TOI for all the updates on coronavirus

Govt of India's HLL Lifecare Ltd has ordered 4,50,000 vials of Remdesivir from Gilead Sciences Inc US and Egyptian Pharma Company Eva Pharma. It's expected that Gilead Sciences will dispatch 75,000 to 1,00,00 vials in next one or two days, ministry of chemicals and fertilizers says

Arunachal Pradesh logs 194 new Covid-19 cases, tally rises to 18,256

Arunachal Pradesh reported 194 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike, pushing the coronavirus tally to 18,256, a senior health department official said here on Friday. The Covid-19 death toll rose to 59 with a school teacher succumbing to the infection at the Dedicated COVID Hospital at Chimpu near here, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. Barring 43 patients, all the fresh cases are asymptomatic, the SSO said. Of the 194 new cases, 173 were detected through rapid antigen test, 12 via TrueNAT and nine with the help of RT-PCR, he said.

To meet the urgent requirement of oxygen in various parts of the country, DRDO is arranging big-size oxygen cylinders for fulfilling requirements of different hospitals. Yesterday, DRDO handed over 75 such cylinders to the Delhi Govt: Defence ministry

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel writes to PM Modi suggesting to him that an order of priority for vaccination be fixed in the age category of 18-44 years, and priority be given to the socially and economically weaker sections, in the light of shortage of vaccine.

The CM further suggests that on-site registration be also made available for this category so that no one is deprived of vaccination due to online registration alone.
