Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Friday ordered that restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which bars assembly of more than four people, be imposed in the state amid rising Covid-19 cases.

The state on Friday reported 36 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 3,619 while 153 people recovered from the disease, pushing the number of recoveries to 2,074.

The Centre on Friday said that the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (undergraduate) will be conducted on September 1-6 and September 13, 2020 respectively as scheduled. Following the Supreme Court’s order on Monday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the admit cards for the JEE (main) and as on Friday, 6,49,223 aspirants have downloaded theirs.

On Friday, Goa reported 477 recoveries and 385 new cases taking the tally of active cases to 3807.

Gujarat carried out record 72,858 tests in a day, taking the total to 16.2 lakh. The state is carrying out 1121 tests per day per million population, said state health department officials

Jammu and Kashmir's Covid-19 tally reached 31,371 after 654 fresh infections were detected in the union territory on Friday, while fifteen more deaths took the toll to 593, officials said. Of the 654 new Covid-19 cases, 540 were reported from Kashmir, while 114 were recorded in the Jammu region, they said.
