Coronavirus live updates: England to enter new lockdown; UK virus cases pass 1 million

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering imposing new national lockdown measures next week, amid concerns that hospitals across the country are overwhelmed by a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, The Times newspaper reported on Friday.

In an advisory to states on setting up coordination committees for distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine, the health ministry has said introduction of the shots will span over a year with multiple groups being included sequentially, starting from health care workers, while also asking governments to be vigilant about disinformation on social media.

The trajectory of active case-load of Covid infections has been diverse across the country with some of the worst-affected states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala reporting a decline in numbers over 24 hours while Delhi remained a cause of concern with an additional 1574 active cases over the previous day.

Protesters who deny the existence of COVID-19 and object to restrictions to curb the pandemic's spread clashed with police in Barcelona on Friday.

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has tested negative for coronavirus after nearly three weeks, the club confirmed on Friday.

"We plan to go into children as soon as we possibly can, but very carefully in terms of safety," Dr Jerry Sadoff of Johnson & Johnson told the panel. He said depending on safety and other factors, the company plans to test in younger children afterwards.
