IIT-K to analyse Covid curve in UP
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to engage the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) for rigorous analysis of the Covid curve in all the 75 districts of the state.He said that such analysis would help in pandemic management. "In view of the Covid peak, experts all over the country have been coming up with analysis. We should coordinate with IIT-K for district-wise rigorous analysis of UP," he said during a review meeting of the Covid situation in the state.A senior state government official said that various experts had been doing analysis using technology and mathematics to indicate how and when the Covid infection or recovery graph would rise and fall. IIT-K already has been doing such analysis and has made them public. It would do more, as and when, the state government asked it to do so. (IANS)

Congress wants extension of lockdown in Goa
Leader of Opposition in the GoaAssembly Digambar Kamat on Sunday said the four-day lockdown imposed in the state needs to be extended in view of the "grim situation" in the coastal state.Following a very high test positivity rate, Goa went into a lockdown on Friday and it will remain applicable till 6am on Monday. All essential services have been exempted from the curbs.In a statement issued here, Congress leader Kamat claimed people of Goa are scared in the wake of the "unstoppable rise" in Covid-19 cases and the increasing number of deaths."As the situation is grim, extending lockdown with strict enforcement is the only option left," he said.He demanded that the BJP-led state government announce a Rs 100 crore package for the marginalised sector to minimise the effect of the lockdown.He also said the need of the hour is to hand over the Covid-19 management to a "task force of experts from the civil society and the Army". Telangana reported 7,430 fresh Covid-19 cases taking the tally to over 4.50 lakh while the toll rose to 2,368 with 56 more casualties.The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for the most number of cases with 1,546, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (533) and Rangareddy (475), a government bulletin said on Sunday providing details as of 8 PM on May 1.The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 4,50,790 while with 5,567 patients being cured, the total recoveries were at 3,67,727.The state has 80,695 active cases and nearly 76 thousand samples were tested on Saturday. 12 journalists test positive for Covid-19
As many as 12 journalists, whohad undergone RT-PCR tests to cover the Belgaum Lok Sabha bypoll counting, have tested positive for Covid-19, officials said on Sunday.A total of 29 journalists had undergone the tests as mandated by the Election Commission, said the officials.The 12 are from print and television news channels, they said.Following the medical report, deputy CM Laxman Savadi asked the officials to quarantine the scribes and arrange for their medical treatment. The consignment has been handed over by the Government of France to the Government of India through the Indian Red Cross Society. To ensure that the hospital-level oxygen generators are utilized at the earliest, the Government of India has already identified the hospitals where the generators will be installed, as per medical requirement and priority.
