Gujarat, Himachal Election Results 2022 Live Updates: Party's high command to decide on Himachal CM, say Congress MLAs
The Congress, which wrested power from the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, has convened a meeting of all its newly-elected MLAs in Shimla on Friday where a resolution is likely to be passed authorising the party president to pick the CLP leader. The Congress on Thursday won 40 seats in the 68-member Assembly in the hill state which maintained its tradition of not voting any incumbent government to power since 1985. It was a complete decimation by BJP in Gujarat and a buoyant performance by Congress in Himachal Pradesh as the results for the two states were declared on Thursday. The BJP won 156 out of 182 seats in Gujarat, posting not just its own personal best but surpassing Congress's previous record of 149 seats in 1985. In Himachal, the Congress edged past the BJP and won the state by a comfortable margin, securing 40 out of the 68 seats.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Thursday claimed that BJP's win in Gujarat assembly poll has sounded the bugle for the party's success in the 2024 general election.
