Trunch is the new buzzword for the party hearty who want to unwind on a Sunday afternoon.Step into your fancy high heels, don those designer shades, clutch onto that li'l super expensive handbag, sport the bling and get set to party. After all, it's Sunday! That's right. The city's party hearties don't let the morning blues get to them; if it's Sunday, they're at a 'Trunch'! So what is a 'Trunch'? Quite simply: Tea + lunch.
"Most of these so-called 'brunch' parties start late in the afternoon and go on till late in the evening," says Mumbai-based restaurateur Sunny Sara.
For most people, it's the perfect way to unwind after the weekday blues and a good reason to ring in the new week, leaving behind the hustle bustle of Saturday night partying. The setting is perfect - great interiors, fancy linen, free-flowing wine and champagne and bling. ......"It has a complete New York City feel to it. Unlike a nightclub where one has to scream to be heard," says actor Simone Singh. Adds a club owner, "More emphasis is laid on the interiors considering that these parties take place during the course of the day. It adds up to an air of sophistication and class." TRUNCH OR BRUNCH? Suresh Bajaj film distributor "Well, I would prefer it to brunch because Sunday is really the only day to kick back. You know, even a couple of decades ago - say in the early eighties or so - there were homes where one went to have a late, late lunch like at 4 or 5 pm." Archie Paranji, event manager "I am sure Hyderabad will love it, we are so brilliantly lazy, aren't we? An occasion like this is really more about hanging out than about the food anyway. It will be nice as everyone can come aaram se." ......Vivek Khurana Entrepreneur Trunch may not be a concept that suits me. Sunday is the only day when you get to catch an afternoon nap. Why miss out on that? On an ideal Sunday, I would skip breakfast, have a brunch with some beer thrown in at around 1 or 2 pm, wind it up by 3 pm, and go home for a nap. Maya Shankar interior designer I am surprised that the trunch concept started in Mumbai rather than here. Because, people here saunter in quite late even for brunches. You can count the number of people who come out for a breakfast of waffles on a Sunday morning. Most people come in around 2-2.30 pm. Talking of trunches, an outdoor setting on a winter afternoon would be ideal. hyderabadtimes@indiatimes.com
