GURGAON: Calling Gurgaon 'mini Hindustan' with no dearth of money and hardworking people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the city should have been placed among the likes of Bangalore and Hyderabad but Congress and INLD had shattered the residents' dreams. Seeking a repeat of BJP's Lok Sabha election landslide, Modi said that if the city's infrastructure and power situation was improved, it would create plenty of job opportunities.
Modi was addressing a public meeting at the Leisure Valley grounds in Sector 29 of Gurgaon in the last leg of campaigning for the state assembly polls after two other rallies in Sirsa and Jind earlier in the day. At his last rally in Haryana before October 15 polls, Modi said India was being feted across the world including the US "not because of Modi but you" as it was the people who had elected a majority government in the Lok Sabha for the first time in 30 years.
Attacking previous state governments for dynastic rule and poor pace of development in Haryana, Modi urged people of the state to give BJP a full majority in the election. He said if BJP comes to power, the state, which didn't see development in 50 years will witness change within five years.
Slamming the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress and Om Prakash Chautala-led INLD governments, Modi said in spite of Haryana's great potential for fast-paced development, previous governments kept themselves busy with distributing wealth among their own family members.
"If a person becomes the chief minister then his son, son-in-law and daughter-in-law run the government. Apart from the administrative machinery, there is a parallel rule by family members. Every family member is given a couple of districts and departments to handle," he said.
Political pundits and surveys are predicting that in Haryana BJP will either get a majority or will be the single largest party and will form the government. Modi wanted voters to give a clear verdict. "I request you not to elect a government which will depend on others. Otherwise what is required for the state's development will be looted by those who come to help us," he said. "Going by people's response to BJP's rallies, including today's, I can assure pundits that BJP will get a full majority."

Referring to his "Make in India" campaign, the Prime Minister said during his visits abroad, many countries had promised huge investments in India. "Thousands of crores (of rupees in investments) are coming into India from abroad. Development is the panacea for all ills. We want development of all of Haryana and not just one region of the state," he said. Highlighting the law and order situation in the state, Modi said he would ensure security for women. He stressed that the skewed sex ratio in the state needed to be rectified. Blaming Congress rule for atrocities on Dalits, he said when Dalit girls were raped, the government did not file an FIR against the accused.
Union minister of state for defence Rao Inderjit Singh, who shared the stage with Modi, reiterated that Gurgaon has been completely neglected by Congress despite the city contributing maximum share to the state exchequer. BJP candidates including Umesh Aggarwal, Rao Narveer Singh and others from nine assembly seats were also present.
