'$1700 per month to live like that': Nikki Haley's son Nalin Haley reveals how expensive America really is
At 24, Nikki Haley's son Nalin Haley has slowly transformed into the young mascot for US President Donald Trump's MAGA movement. While he pays his allegiance to Republicans and conservatives through his evocative stance, it seems he has also found things he wants to change about the current America.
Haley, the son of former South Carolina governor and US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, is known for his promotion of an affordable living and economy. The young MAGA influencer created the Tri-County Young Republicans, an organisation launched in February 2026.
He recently took to X to call for a shift away from foreign wars to domestic spending, amassing 29,000 likes. Currently, working a corporate job in mergers and acquisitions, he said he is outraged by how difficult it is for young people to get ahead in America.
“I had friends who grew up in mansions and I had friends who grew up in trailer parks,” he said to The Free Press. “They graduated and most of them don’t have jobs—and it’s not because they didn’t work hard.”
He added that he is frustrated by the high cost and low quality of everyday life. “My whole block smells like weed. You can’t go to CVS without pushing a button to unlock things,” he said. “Why the hell is it $1,700 a month to live like that?”
Haley highlighted an incident from his own life when he fell while playing basketball and hit his head. When he heard someone calling for an ambulance, he thought internally: "My first thought was: Don’t. I’ll take an Uber. Because ambulances are expensive."
In an email to the outlet, Haley's mother, also attested to his views. "I understand the frustrations of their generation. It’s something I talked about every single day on the campaign trail. They are inheriting debt and dysfunction that they will never forgive previous generations for, yet no one in Washington seems interested in changing course, reforming their behaviour, or cutting spending," she wrote.
In interviews with Tucker Carlson and Fox News, he asked for an end to H-1B visas, restrictions on university admissions for immigrants and argued that only US-born citizens should hold public office.
Born in 2001, he is the youngest of the two children the couple shares. He attended high school in New York and later went on to study political science at Villanova University, a Catholic institution in Philadelphia. In 2025, Nalin, the son of a Punjabi mother and a Christian father, converted to Catholicism in the Catholic Church in South Carolina.
He previously actively campaigned alongside his mother at the 2024 Republican presidential primaries and now runs an organisation connecting conservatives across New York, Chester and Lancaster Counties in South Carolina.
