R Madhavan talks about being a parent and Vedaant’s success
In 2025, while speaking with The Hindu, the actor discussed the entire family's move to Dubai so Vedaant Madhavan could continue training as a professional swimmer. Madhavan, at the time, admitted that he was a “6/10” as a parent and that many things had happened in their family life, including the big shift to Dubai.
As to how he and his wife, Sarita Birje, moved to Dubai to help his son focus on his career during the COVID-19 lockdown, he stated, “It was an essential decision taken at the right moment. Vedaant was going through his growth spurt as a teenager, and not having a pool to swim would have meant the end of his international swimming career.”
R Madhavan says he treated his son as an adult from a very young age
In recent months, the ‘Shaitaan’ actor has been quite open about his bond with Vedaant and how he has opted to parent him. In an interview with Kumudam recently, the actor talked about how he has always treated his son as an adult.
Further adding context, he added, “I have always treated him as an adult since a very young age, be it talking about sexual touch or using a condom.
Since the age of 4, I’ve been talking freely with him. This has instilled a kind of trust in him, like ‘my father treats me with respect’; this has made him feel responsible as well. This became easy for me to communicate.”
He has been quite open about conversations surrounding life with his son. The actor admitted he also had the bees and birds talk with his son.
