VCK's Sinthanai Selvan urges DMK, AIADMK to propose Thol Thirumavalavan's name as Tamil Nadu CM
CHENNAI: Amid the prevailing fluid political situation, which left actor Vijay with 108 MLAs and struggling to secure a simple majority to form the government, VCK general secretary Sinthanai Selvan has appealed to the Dravidian majors, the DMK and AIADMK, to propose party chief Thol Thirumavalavan as Chief Minister to bring political stability in the best interest of the state. “It is the need of the hour,” he said in a post on X, adding that it was not his personal opinion but a popular sentiment that would sow the seeds of hope among the masses. Taking to social media, the former floor leader of the party referred to the outcome of the April 23 polls, which unseated the DMK from power, reduced the AIADMK to a weak opposition in the Assembly, and gave 108 seats—10 short of a simple majority—to actor Vijay’s two-year-old party. Amid dissatisfaction over voting for TVK, and as various sections of people now openly argue that the DMK should, at the very least, consider a minimal “action-plan” understanding with the AIADMK to address the uneasy political situation brewing in Tamil Nadu, he said. Stating that there are voices of genuine concern fearing that the state is at risk of being captured by fan-driven populism, Sinthanai Selvan said the Dravidian parties should propose Thirumavalavan as Chief Minister and then work towards building a consensus around him.
“If the people of Tamil Nadu truly want change, then the logical answer is not to hand power to a star-driven ‘new leader’, but to someone who has already served the people—an uncorrupted and experienced leader like Thirumavalavan,” he said.
