LUDHIANA: Local MP Ravneet Singh Bittu of the Congress has accused the enforcement directorate (ED) of giving electric shocks in custody to
Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey. He said this at the resort where party MP Rahul Gandhi was to announce the name of CM candidate.
Rahul had run late for the event and the attendees were getting restless when Bittu was entrusted with the task of settling them down.
He got up and claimed that Honey was being tortured to name Channi and the other Congressmen. About Rs 10 crore seized from Honey's properties, Bittu alleged that it was planted, for "only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah could have so much cash at their disposal".
Taking a jibe at the farmer unionists of Punjab, he said: "The election symbol of manja (charpoy) allotted to Balbir Singh Rajewal's Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) is a sign that the farmer unions should rest than fight elections."
Making another random statement against the opposition, he said: "Our moles in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have done their job of winning candidatures, and after the elections, they'll be back in our fold. The Congress is the only party to have made a pagg-wala (turbaned) Sikh as prime minister for 10 years." The raids on CM's kin were linked to illegal mining as well.
