The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will begin the registration and choice filling process for JoSAA Counselling 2026 today, June 2, at 5 PM. Eligible candidates can complete the process through the official website, josaa.nic.in.
Candidates who qualified the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 will be able to participate in the counselling process for admission to Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programmes offered by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
For admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), candidates must have a valid rank in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1.
To be considered for admission to premier engineering institutes, candidates must meet the required academic criteria. As per the eligibility rules, students should have secured at least 75 per cent marks in Class 12. For candidates belonging to reserved categories, the minimum required marks are 65 per cent.
JoSAA will conduct seat allocation for over 62,000 engineering seats across participating institutes this year. Of these, around 18,160 seats are available in 23 IITs, according to previous admission data.
With lakhs of candidates expected to take part in the counselling process, competition for top colleges and popular branches is likely to remain high.
The registration and choice filling process will continue until June 11. After the completion of choice locking, JoSAA will announce the Round 1 seat allotment result on June 13.
The Round 2 seat allotment result is scheduled to be declared on June 20. The entire counselling process will be conducted in six rounds.
The counselling process includes several stages. First, candidates must register and fill in their preferred colleges and courses in order of priority.
Based on the choices submitted and the candidate's rank, seat allotment results will be announced. Candidates who receive a seat must accept the allotment online and pay the required seat acceptance fee.
After accepting the seat, candidates will have to complete online reporting by uploading the necessary documents. The final admission process will be completed after verification and payment of the institute fee for the 2026–27 academic session.
Candidates are advised to carefully fill and lock their choices before the deadline, as seat allotment will be based on the preferences submitted during the counselling process.
